The ALB Cooperative Eradication Program Participants
APHIS, USDA's Forest Service, USDA's Agricultural Research Service, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation participate in the ALB Cooperative Eradication Program.
New York Activities by Year: Timeline
1996: ALB detected in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. This was the first ALB detection in the United States.
1996: ALB detected in Amityville on Long Island a few weeks after the first detection.
1999: ALB detected in the Bayside area of Queens county, New York.
1999: ALB detected in the Islip area of Long Island, New York.
2000: ALB detected in the Luther Gulick Playground in the Lower East Side area of Manhattan.
2006: Most recent ALB detection in New York.
Deregulation and Eradication Declarations
Currently, all infested areas of the New York area remain under regulation.
Treatments
Approximately 51,000 trees in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens will be treated starting in mid-March, 2006.
Quarantine Zones
The quarantine area in New York now includes a 132-square-mile area including parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island.
Project Cooperators
Partners in eradication include the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the USDA Forest Service, and APHIS.
